In fact, you came right on the crucial point. How is it range coupled? A 250 
Euros answer....

My wild guess is that the coupler is on the adaptor, a cam to match the 
finder command. Then a graduation on the barrel of the adaptor gives the 
distance.

Then report that on the barrel of the R lens.

That's the System Specs, rough!

The M lens on R system has no automatic diaphragm...

Well. Never mind!
