Hi Bob!

I have the old SL vintage 2x and it is amazing. I have also used
(borrowed from Leica) the APO 2x.

1) I don't see why the APO mode; should not work with your 70_180
APO. The non-APO one does! And, my old non_APO one works fine with my 80~200/4.

2) shorter zooms tend not to like any converters... but try it. It
might amaze you! Certainly, it will fit!

3) my old SL vintage converter vignettes rather badly, with the
400/f6.8 Telyt. (Example at:
http://www.telyt.50megs.com/nab_Blue%20Heron.htm ) Used with other
than full frame dSLR's (including the DMR) the vignetting falls
outside the image area, and it's perfect! I tested the APO
converter, with the 400/f6.8 and it does NOT vignette, when using
film, so there is an obvious improvement there!

Hope this helps.
