[LRFlex] Re: Photokina - a few pictures

Hi Gary,
Yes I got my grubby paws on a Leica R9 + Digital back, but not long
enough to find out exactly what the control wheels and buttons actually
do. They look pretty simple though. The only results I saw were what
showed up on the LCD screen, which doesn't tell much about the quality
at all. I also got the impression that the R9 sounds louder with the new
back, maybe resonance effects, but I can't be sure.
Personally not being particularly interested in this new addition to the
Leica stable I was more
impressed with the new solid titanium M7 - this IS a beautiful piece of
work and even has a titanium
coloured (no longer red) dot. It even feels a little different, maybe
the conductive properties of titanium.
I'm afraid I can't report any more on the Photokina 2004, I was only in
Cologne for a day and it's a four hour drive from here even when the
autobahns are not congested. 2006 I'll definitely try to get a couple of
days in Cologne, it's more than impossible to get your head around
what's there in just 8 hours, and on top of that it's physically hard
work too.
Douglas

BTW top marks for the very friendly and well informed staff at Novoflex,
Zeiss, Epson, DxO, ArcSoft and Adobe. And the staff of all the wonderful
Chinese companies who were there for the first time too.

Thanks for the on-the-scene reporting Douglas! Keep them coming. Did you get
a chance to try the controls on the digital-R back? See any sample output
from it?

Have never been to Photokina, so it's fun hearing your direct experience
there.

http://gallery.leica-users.org/Photokina

A few very expensive Leicas, and other Solms toys
A Canon Girl - The Canon stand was incredibly full, after 5 attempts to
get some info I gave up.
Some Really Reptilian Rolleis, and some strange new products
A Kodak flower bed.
A lot of people looking at Epson RD-1s.

And the new Zeiss Ikon.

Is this the first shot of the back door of the ZI ? If the button is the
AE-lock, the Zeiss man was too busy to answer,
then this is no good for left-eyed photographers - unless it's nose
operated.
