[LRflex] Re: Patent by Steven K. Lee

Maybe he got the job because he had the patent! The
existing Focusing Modul-R system could be the initial
application, since the lens heads are already
available and ready to go. They just need to make
additional focusing moduls for each camera
manufacturer. The existing focusing Modul-R 1X, 1.4X
and 2X could be supplemented by Focusing Modul-N,
Focusing Modul-C, etc., and Leica could be selling the
big stuff to lots more users!

To take it a step further, remember how the older M
lenses, such as the 65mm, 90mm and 135mm, could
unscrew the lens head from the focusing mount, so that
you could attach it to the bellows for Visoflex use?
Maybe they're picturing a more compact rear focusing
unit with AF and iris motors for each body
manufacturer, and then various lens heads with the
front elements, including zoom group, would
interchange on the AF focusing mount.

I can see the ad campaign - the Zen of the old
combining with the new - like Jaguar trying to tie in
the new bonded aluminum frame of the XJ8 with the old
D-type's frame.

Then Leica doesn't need to design an R10 digital
body, with eternal firmware update headaches, and
digital technology having a 2-3 year lifespan! Let
others worry about the constant updating of the AF
system with new bodies every year or two. Leica just
capitalizes on the lenses.

And we all have to buy new lenses! Isn't Leica's
biggest competitor the used leica market, after all?
Maybe Leica in its mercy will have a MF R modul for we
Stalwarts!

Way cool idea. We should be going online to the US
PTO online appication url ourselves!!!!! Or buying
stock?
