A couple of observations regarding the rumors: A 16:9 sensor wouldn't necessarily require a mirror that would interfere with R or ROM lenses, as the shorter dimension doesn't have to be bigger, just the long width a little wider -- the axis it's swinging on can remain the same length. The aspect ratio could be switchable, like on the D-Lux, to accomodate lenses without sufficient circular coverage. You just woldn't use the pixels on the edges. When the R8 was introduced, Leica said that the ROM contacts wre designed for the possibility of future AF use (IIRC) -- why would more or different contacts and mount be necessary? If the AF motors are all in the lenses, which seems to be the preferred technology, perhaps the ROM mount will be compatible. This could also drum up a LOT of business for ROM conversions of older lenses, and the body may be with or without automatic diaphragm control of 3-cam or R-cam lenses!!!!! We could see ROM necessary for automation, R-cam but not three cam necessary for auto diaphragm, etc. Many possibilities to speculate on -- every permutation of 1, 2, 3 or R cam + non-AF ROM + AF-ROM! Again, when the R8 body shell was introduced, Leica said it was designed to have room for AF, digital, etc. (IIRC). It could remain the same, which I would be happy with!
