I am sorry to hear of your poor experience with Kindermann.
I've had them fix (over the years) an R5 (twice) a 180 Elmar, a 90
Summicron, a 2x converter, Doug's old 21mm/4SA and my R8. They've also
added a third cam to Alex Hurst's old 50 'cron. In every case the work has
been completed promptly and perfectly. I wish I could say the same for
other service agencies I've used!
You are right, Kindermann isn't cheap... though they're not particularly
more expensive than many others. However after experiences with other
shops, I won't send my stuff anywhere else!
The only time they were slow was with the 180 Elmar... it had been through
a flood and the diaphragm blades had rusted shut. Because the blades were
no longer available as separate items, they had to find an entire diaphragm
'assembly' for it. That took some time, but when they managed to find it,
they completed the job promptly; and in their usual top notch manner.
I guess nobody gets every job right. :(
I hope the shop that currently has your IIIg does better by you.
Please do keep us informed as to who it is and how they do.
Best regards,
David.
