Xavier:
Thanks very much for posting the interesting digital photographs. I believe
that some of us feel that a wide range of so called "point and shoot"
cameras will make very acceptable images if such images are to be viewed on
a computer screen. Such cameras now come with image stabilization, more
sophisticated algorithms, and lenses that cover amazing focal lengths.
Indeed, it may not be until larger prints are made that one will be able to
discern the meaningful differences in the quality of images made with
superior lenses and cameras with higher megapixel capability. Moreover,
IMHO, one of the reasons that digital photography is doing as well as it is,
is that images are taken and simply viewed on monitors and sent over the
internet. If one has no need to make larger prints or enlargements I wonder
if additional money need be spent for higher end cameras and lenses. I am
asking a question not making a dogmatic statement.
Allow me to also pose another related question: For viewing images on
computer monitors or sending to others over the internet to also be viewed
on monitors, is there a reason to use our expensive and superior Leica gear,
then scan the tranny or negative, and then do manipulation in PS, Corel,
etc. or will the results with the camera that Xavier is using do the trick
with identical editing? Indeed, let's go a step further: Is there a reason
to use Medium Format if the aim is to view images on ones computer?
Furthermore, will the M8 possibly add anything worth the price for simply
uploading images to the computer for viewing, etc.?
Elliot
