Hi Dave,

A welcome from the German branch of the family too.

I used an R5 for a long time until I found a very reasonably priced R7. Both are excellent cameras, very light and compact and have enough features to satisfy anybody when it comes to metering and AE modes.

The R7 has a mirror lock-up option like on the R6 and is easier to use with fill-in flash. The advantage of the R5 is that it runs off the batteries in the drive or winder if you have one attached.

Strangely enough, the R-E commands better market prices (around 170 euros). An R5 Portugal is around 160 euros, an R5 Germany is around 190 euros) and an R4s can cost you as little as 120 euros here in Germany. An R6 is almost twice the price of an R5 at 370 euros, an R6.2 will set you back almost 600 and an R7 lies between these two at around 400 euros.

These are pretty much rock-bottom prices and vary considerably upwards. R8 bodies begin at around 500, depending on the condition and R9 bodies go for a minimum of around 850.

All prices are based on the latest statistics gathered by Foto Magazine, one of the most prominent photographic mags in Germany.

Cheers
Douglas

Welcome Dave. Let me add my two cents. I started with an R4, (had two of them) but to add one more camera to the choices for you, when I got my R8, the R4s saw very little use. R8 was about as close to perfect as any camera I have owned in the last 40 years with one exception - the weight. Since you have a 5D, then the bulk of the R8 will not be an issue for you. So, if you happen to come across one in your search, give it a try. Once you hold it, or the R9, in your hands and shoot a few frames you will be hooked. Bright viewfinder, very accurate metering in all modes, convenient mirror lock-up, easy to use exposure compensation, fits like a glove... What more could one ask for? OK, maybe about half the bulk. The R9 is lighter, but I blew my wad on the R8 before the R9 came out. Aram

I am currently using a Canon 5Dm2 and since I've bought a Summicron-R 50 f2 to be used with adaptor on my Canon, I am hooked!! I've since bought a 35 cron n a 50 lux. currently, looking for a film SLR. Deciding between R4S, R-E, R5 or R6.2. advice?

Thanks. I am in Singapore btw.
