[LRflex] Mancunian Pictures

Hi group

I have been testing out some new kit on townscapes here in Manchester.

At long last I obtained a Summicron 50 for my SL2. Here are a couple of the
shots. First a graffiti shot. I known many may object to my trying to make
photographs from what you may consider to be acts of vandalism but this one
works for me.

Second a distorted reflection:

I have to say I must add my thanks to Doug for his influence in my choice of
a SL2 - yes it's that fabulous screen and with the 50mm is great walk around
camera.

I very recently obtained a R6.2 and a 80-200 zoom: here a couple of the
shots when I took this kit around town. First a picture of Sir John
Barbirolli's bust outside the Bridgewater Hall:

and a shot of the Town Hall:

All shots taken on Kodak 400CN, process by a local mini lab and scanned by a
Nikon scanner. I have quite taken to this film. I plan on comparing Fuji's
equivalent in the near future.

I have to say I am deeply impressed with the optical qualities of the 80-200
zoom, but it is a bit heavy. My first usage of the lens was on a R8 - I got
a great photo of a mallard duck but this is not the place to display such a
mundane subject!! - but my right hand was severely strained when trying to
support the combination with one hand and that dam lug on the R8 was digging
into my hand. I can note that I like the aperture priority mode on the R8.
The R6.2 and 80-200 combination was awkward as I couldn't get a firm enough
grip on the camera. I just wish I could get a SL2-like camera that took ROM
lenses and had a side grip in the manner of my D200. I have a Luigi half
case for the SL2 which gives me a grip which is at least as good as the
D200, but then the zoom is a ROM lens. I am contemplating a similar case for
the R6.2 but they don't come cheap.

All the best, Chris
