[LRflex] Re: MP 0.58 finder?

Hello Eric,

Sorry, had the week from hell and am just catching up with mail.

I suppose my point was..., that .58 MP made those shots possible
in very tough light without cropping. I find the camera a bit fussy
to use compared to my M5 or M7 .72, but it does have the perfect
frame for a 35/2, feels rock-solid and has the brightest viewfinder
in any Leica I've used.

That 800 Supra is no longer made. I rarely shoot above 400 Portra
VC and haven't tried the new Portra 800. Was just glad I had some
along that day. Exposures were still ~ 1/30th, another M strong
point. Wish they would pay their lighting bill... :-)

Scans were commercial high-res Agfa. They are suitable for printing
to 11 x 17 but that machine has lately been broken at my local shop
and I hope they've got it going again because the next alternative is
not convenient and I shot some stuff today which will need to be
processed soon. :-(

BTW, I use an SL for macro but otherwise shoot M's. They suit me.
The lenses are also without peer on film.

Post whatever you like. I'm bored with most of the digital/software
mumbo-jumbo. I'm watching HDTV as I type and have no interest in
my pictures looking like that. The best Leica glass renders textures
with a tactile quality which is mostly lost by digital capture from
almost all the examples I've seen. At least the DM-R appears
very close to a 100 UC color palette, much better to my eye than
the M8.

You like that Zeiss M-mount camera?! IMO only a mother could
love it. :-) Where will you have it repaired in a few years? What
could it be worth? I've had my M5 for 35 years, it works perfectly,
has a great meter and frame for a 50, and Sherry gave it a CLA
three years ago, no problem. Why would you use signature
Leica glass on a Zeiss camera? You think it's better for 50+
than a .85 MP or M7?

BTW, travelled for a week last July in England with a German
photographer who had a Hexar which had been specially
modified to focus accurately with Leica M glass. It was one
of his back-up bodies. Used it a few times and was not
impressed. He is one of the main beta-testers of the M8 and
can get commercially acceptable results with it..., but he
ain't selling his MP or M3! :-) Maybe you saw his work in
Leica News last September or in the last two issues of LFI?

You don't believe everything you read, do you??? :-)

Must run; 12 hour day in the office tomorrow...

Best Regards,

William
