[LRflex] M8 - Eye Relief and other stories...

>Johnathan Lee wondered about the eye relief in the M8 finder....

It's excellent... the display seems to 'float' in the air, and is easily visible
with eyeglasses, as are all the frame lines. I don't know the magification
factor as it was not marked on the test camera. I wear glasses and had no
problems.

BTW: in Aperture priority mode, the M8 displays the shutter speed. In manual
mode, it meters just like the M6TTL, with a center dot and an arrow to either
side, which lights up to show which way to turn the dials. It's a very nice
arrangement.

>Earlier, elliot had wondered about the sharpening algorithm needing the new 6
bit coding for proper optimization.

This is not so, first of all, it's the vignetting compensation which is lens
dependent, and in the menus you can select lens dependent or not. If you select
lens dependent (and it can detect a lens it understands) it makes the
corrections in .jpg and .tif files. In RAW mode, it simply notes the
information in the exif data of the .dng file, for later processing.

The camera as fully useable with almost every lens in the 'M' arsenal. Nobody I
know, who has used it, has had any probems with vignetting in any way, and all
are using standard (not coded) lenses.

Another nice bit, is that the M8's histogram is displayed in the lower right
corner, on a transparent background, so you can still see your shot behind the
histo's window. Really rather cute... and very effective. :-)

Cheers!
