[LRflex] Re: M8

Re: M8

The "bad news" is likely to be the price. Furthermore, after reading the
brief review at the digital preview site one gathers that part of the
sharpening algorithm might be dependent upon the ability of the M8 to "read"
what lens is attached. So, although one might be able to use all of one's
recent M lenses, I am not sure if such lenses will be fully functional on
the M8. Yes, I am aware that Leica will modify the M lenses one already
owns so that they will be fully functional on the new M8, but the price is,
I think, about $125 to $150 per lens. Many of us using the M system have at
least one wide angle lens and the standard 50mm lens ( at a minimum )....so
that math is easy to do ( see below ).

Certainly the news "trielmar" lens is interesting to both RF digital and
film users alike. However, if one guesses the price of the new trielmar to
be in the $2,000 range ( probably some what more ) and the new M8 to be, as
rumored, close to $5,000 then one can easily see that the price of the new
system will certainly make some of us blink very fast before ordering one.
Let's see....the new 10 megapixel Nikon D80 ( very impressive reviews so
far ) and zoom lens is about $1400....., not trying to be difficult, and I
know the D80 is most assuredly not an M8 or even the DMR, but add a few of
the better Nikon lenses and one is still multiple thousands of dollars
"ahead".
