Good afternoon David,
I just took, inadvertently, a shot with ISO 3200, and for a change with
a Zeiss 50/1,7 lens.
http://gallery.leica-users.org/album150/Roses_at_3200
The amazing thing about this business is I can go into the garden, take a
few shots, run upstairs and have it processed and posted within minutes
- or go back and do it again if it's not what I wanted.
I hadn't used the custom setting ISO 3200 (H) before, and I must admit
to being relatively "gob-smacked", there is some noise and the colours
fade a little, but it really is a more than usable setting.
I too was vehemently anti-AF, anti-zoom and even more anti-digital until
I was more or less forced into using a Canon 300D last year in the UK
(My R7 went on strike), the 300D is a bit of a slowcoach when waking up
and I hated the delay, so the 20D was bought(and has just paid for
itself). The 300D is now used for leisurely landscape shots, where
reaction time is of no importance, and still takes a damn good snap.
cheers
Douglas

I must agree with you both.. The quality of Leica glass on the Canon
digi-bodies is truly amazing.
The 80~200 f/4 was my favourite lens on the R8 and continues to be on the 20D.
(The sad part is that it makes the Canon 17~85mm AF-IS lens that I came with
the 20D look much poorer than it probably is, in relation to most zooms around!)
For those who don't know Ted, I've had that privelege for a few years now, and
I've seen the prints he makes. To say they are stunning would be an
understatement!
Even those shot at high ISOs (which do exhibit more 'noise' and a little less
clarity than medium speed film) are hard to tell from similar sized, silver
prints made from negs.
I was a died-in-the-wool film user who'd "never go digital", until I started to
see the results Ted was getting with his LeiCanon. Evenually, I followed in his path
and, to be honest, I haven't had so much fun with photography for a long time!
Cheers!
David.

Hi Douglas,
There isn't any question about the amazing quality derived from R Leica
lenses, on the 20D and I expect from other Canon digi cameras also.
Certainly those lenses I've worked with more so than others for about 6
months, 100mm macro 2.8 and in particular the 80-200 f4.0 zoom lens.
The 80-200 is cutting at ASA100 as though I'm using super fine grain
colour
slide film. The smoothness of skin and colour shooting faces at 200mm,
well
OK some very attractive young model potential women, it's amazing. Not to
forget edge sharpness of eye lashes and snap of highlights in the eyes.
I have completely given up on discussing the constant babble of digi
numbers
of what it will and wont do! Waste of time quite simply because I'm
looking
at the end product on major enlargements and not the constant babble of
nit
picking numbers.
Obviously numbers get some people all a twitter and turned on.
Where I'm far more concerned in the end quality of the photograph
reproduction than the constant number thing. So far making 13X19 prints on
an EPSON 2200 it's creating drop dead prints with my "old colour lab
people"
whom I've paid a fortune to over ther years producing my colour printing
and
slide processing wondering what the hell I do! ;-) I show them and they
don't believe it! Now isn't that much better than meaningless numbers
unless
yer a geekie kind a guy! ;-)
As many of you know already, my answer as usual is.... "KISS!" keep it
simple stupid, shoot away with no more thought than making good solid
photographs while letting the camera do 99.9% of the worrying! Click.
Print!
Smile and feel good! :-)
Nice photo and having fun without all the digi number BS!! :-) Have a nice
LEICANON day! :-)
