Charlie, Douglas, Alex,
We are now back to the modular camera that some of us were talking
about a couple of years ago: just like our computers, in which the
innards can be changed almost ad infinitum.
My M8 and DMR are basically computers with an interchangeable lens and
very few controls attached, and the R10, IMHO, has to be an evolution
of that concept. Hold the applause, that is a "blinding glimpse of the
obvious."
I think the the R10 will be Leica's answer to this question:
What do you hang behind generations of Leica glass, which will
complement and exploit their characteristics and qualities, and be
capable of continual technical evolution at reasonable cost?
Once again, that is another "blinding glimpse of the obvious." Forgive
me.
New subject: Does anyone have an idea of the status of development of
an "electronic shutter," a way of recording the state of a sensor over
a few milliseconds instead of turning the light coming through the
lens on and off mechanically? Is it theoretically feasible? Is it the
way video cameras capture still pictures?
Thanks,
Bill

Douglas,
The digital film replacement that Alex just mentioned
would be a solution to that problem if they could
get a full frame sensor that worked with the short lenses.
It woudn't sell any bodies for Leica, but it would
still sell lenses. If the sensors worked well, people
would probably want them for several bodies, and
would upgrade as they got better, without any negative
quality associations with the body or lenses. It would
also support the value of the existing product base.
