David there's a very simple answer to this situation sell it to some 
unsuspecting no good rotten spammer or other ner do well !

Then buy the 10-22! ;-) Even if you haven't corrected the mm gap in your 
lens collection. ;-) As I sure as heck don't get that kind of 
warping/distortion with the 10-22!

And as far as the lens shade goes I've never used mine as it's way to big 
and so far I haven't seen any flare in what I've shot.
