[LRflex] Re: Leica R to EOS adaptors ... alternative brands.

Charles -

I was working with a terrific machinist and guitar maker named Ken
Parker last week on a number of projects. While he was working on the
lathe I pulled out my Fotodiox adapter, (which does get wiggly & loose
as the slots in the cams compress) and tried a few different shim
thicknesses in the slots. I had been using .020" jobbies cut from
collar stiffeners stuck into the slots and the adapter was actually too
tight on most lenses. I tried .016; too loose. You guessed it... .018
is pretty much the Goldilocks spec, at least for mine.

But maybe .017 would be even slicker...

Anyhow, if yer gonna leave 'em on the lenses, I'd say get a few of the
Fotodiox rings and stick 'em on; if they get loose try some shims.
The Fotodiox guy sez there's a pretty big difference in optimum spacing
for old and new R lenses...

Incidentally, I was traveling around the New York area doing a coupla
photo gigs, a music gig and also getting to see my dad for a few
minutes in there somwhere. Besides music gear I was schlepping around
a Leica M with 4 lenses and the 20D, also with 4 lenses. I'm chagrined
to say that, try as I did, I just couldn't shoot a single frame of
film. Every time a photo opportunity was in front of my face, I had to
admit that the digital was the tool for the job at hand.
