I used R lenses on various Canon Digital SLR bodies beginning with
the D60 and ending with the 5D and using lots of different bodies in
between those two models including the big heavy 1D.
Especially for wide angles, for me accurate focus was always sketchy.
Telephotos were not so difficult to focus. With the cameras set on A
there was a tendency for the exposure to vary as the lens was stopped
down. The 1D did not have this problem but the others did.
I have finally given up on Canon and moved over to the full frame D700
changing the bayonets on my R lenses using leitax bayonets. This suits
me really well. The D700 has wonderful high ISO low light capability
and its auto ISO programming is the best on the planet by my
experience. You get focus confirmation in the view finder but need to
use stop down metering. I expect to use this combo for many years -
until Leica comes out with a new digital SLR that takes R lenses.
Perhaps I will end up using the D700 for the rest of my picture taking
life. Who knows?
Pictures of the conversions and photos taken with R glass on the D700
using 19 Elmarit, 90 Summicron and 180 APO Telyt lenses are here:
