No doubt about it, Bill... the Auto White Balance is the "Achilles
heel" of the DMR. Firmware v1.1 was much better than 1.0. And
v1.2 is considerably better than v1.1. I am holding out great hopes
for v1.3 - which I've been told should appear before Christmas...
though nothing yet. That being said, the M8's AWB seems to be
better, from the get-go. I guess I'm hoping that the AWB routines
from the M8 will be in (or equaled by) V1.3.

I've had no experience with early Canon or Nikon digitals, as I am a
late-comer to the digital field. However, I understand (both from
reading and from talking to those who did own such beasts) that the
early offerings from brands C, N and others were also suffered
erratic AWB problems. It would appear that this is one of the areas
where experience really counts!
Leica will get there, I am sure. But they're not there yet. OTOH, I
prefer what the DMR does for my images in terms of colour rendition
and sharpness as compared to the others, so I'm willing to put up
with the inconsistencies.
My favoured RAW converter, Silkypix, also has a very good AWB
correction... and the entire package costs just much less (US$137)
than what the seem to want for Alien Skin's Exposure.
When I was using the DMR with v1.1 firmware, I nearly always
hit Auto(Silkypix AWB) and within seconds, all was well. With
firmware v.1.2 I seldom use it, finding that the camera's WB is often
best. Still, when needed, it's handy.

Please do!
Cheers!
