[LRFlex] Introductions

Hi everyone!

I have always been interested in photography. I
started taking photos seriously when I bought my own
new Pentax K1000 camera with a 50mm/f2 lens in 1981.
That camera served me reliably until it was stolen in
the mid-1980s. After that I went through a Nikon N90S
and a bunch of Nikon AF lenses, followed by a Canon
EOS-1N RS and Canon EF lenses. I finally realized
that all the automation had taken the fun out of
photography for me! I sold everything and bought a
new Leica M6 TTL with a 35mm Summicron ASPH lens.
That was a turning point in my photographic life!

I was stunned by the quality of the slides produced by
the Leica lens. Not only was the image sharp and the
colors saturated, but the slides exhibited a
3-dimensional effect I had never seen before. It is
difficult to describe, but there was something
wonderfully different about the slides shot with the
Leica lens.

I soon bought a Leicaflex SL and three used R lenses -
28mm, 60mm macro, and a 135mm telephoto lens. The
60mm macro lens turned out to another stunning
performer. I am indebted to Doug Herr for giving me
much needed advice about Leica SLR cameras and lenses.

I then became a Leica addict! I added 21, 24, 35, 50,
90, 100 APO, and 180mm lenses to my Leica SLR outfit.
I added a Leica M3 and 21, 50, 90, and 135mm lenses to
my Leica M outfit. I have also obtained some Leica
III LTM cameras and lenses that I have not used yet.
I bought almost everything on EBAY, and a few items
from LUG or Leica Forum members.

I like using all manual mechanical cameras like the
Leicas. Most of my photography is of people and
places, with friends and relatives often being the
subjects. I shoot both color and black and white
film. I also enjoy "Street Photography". As I live
in a suburb of Chicago, it is very easy for me to
spend an entire day downtown, taking photos of street
life on Michigan Avenue. I am in awe when I visit
Doug Herr's website and look at his photographs of
birds. I know I can never be a wildlife photographer!

I think I should stop now!

Regards,

Richie Chishty
