Hi Steve,
The after photo doesn’t work! WHY? My first reaction is she’s not
sharp where she should be, right on her near eye. Maybe my screen,
maybe the angle, but when you check the two pictures side by each
the first one grabs on an OK basis both sharpness and the subject,
strong “good feeling photo with her little fingers and big hand.”
The after the operation sends the wrong message… much like, “this is
a sick kid in the negative tone!” Whether that’s because she looks
sick plus out of focus or the semi out of focus look due to depth of
field throws it off.
Sorry the second just doesn’t cut it when you see the two together.
First picture has a positive feeling, second is negative.
thanks Ted... you are exactly right, this image is a bit more of a
dose of reality, and it is not sharp where people expect it to be...
that's why I need a good editor...
I've think that maybe I've gotten so close to the subjects and the
images...it's hard to be objective.
there are two issues, as I see it... first, is it a good photo ?, and
second (and independently) is it a positive image ?
this one may fail on the first issue, and yes, second issue... it is
certainly emotionally tougher.
In fact by focussing on the IV, and having the child and the mother
oof to some extant, I thought that it would work emotionally.
I'd like to be able to occasionally show emotionally tough images.
but the question is... how far to go?
I want realism, I don't want to shock my audience, I don't want to go
soft...
I'd appreciate Ted's thoughts as well as those of others,
Steve
