Minor point of clarification - the Nikon register is .5mm shorter than the 
Leica-R register, not longer.

If I were looking for a digital body to use my Leica-R lenses I'd take a very 
close look at the Nikon D700 with the Leitax conversion kits on the lenses.  A 
'crop factor' camera often has a poorer viewfinder than a full-frame camera, 
and it discards a significant part of the lens' image circle so I'd lean in the 
direction of a full-frame camera, for bigger prints and easier manual focussing.
