Thanks for the encouragement... however now, I can use a little more
information!

I had a chance to take a look at the lens and try your suggestions
the other day. The two screws on the edge of the focusing ring appear to
be
limiters for the travel of the focusing ring. Unfortunately, they came out
completely after only a couple of loosening turns, and while the lens will
now focus to (and past) infinity, I haven't seen a way to reinstall the
screws as there doesn't appear to be threaded holes on the internal
portion of the ring. I don't hear anything "rattling around", so I don't
think that a retainer was lost internally, but I can't know this for sure
without disassembling the rear portion of the lens.

As you have taken your lens apart, can you tell me to what these screws
attach, and how to locate it?
