Hi Bob,
well I thought I answered your question very simply. However, I've now removed an adapter from my 80-200 f 4.0 zoom as it was the handiest and I "DO NOT SEE ANY SPRINGS!"

And I used a loop to make sure I could see as close as possible, now I'll re-attach it to the lens ready for shooting tomorrow.

I trust this answers your question.

Ted -

Your trust is well placed. Sincere thanks for digging into this errand for us!

Now, does anyone else with a Cameraquest or Novoflex adapter mind looking to see if it uses springs behind the lobes??

So for those of you out there who have the Cameraquest version - do your adapter rings have actual springs behind the three lobes for retention pressure?? Ted??<<<<<

Hi Bob,
Mine, 20D adapters to Leica or vice versa ( 3 of them ) just locked into place and work very well without any wiggle-wobble whatever. And yes I suppose it maybe a tad more expensive, not sure, but hell I stay with a known quantity, Stephen Gandy Cameraquest, than messing with a bunch of unknowns.

Stephen Gandy has always been first and foremost with service and delivery, so I don't even consider anyone else. Actually I never look at anyone else!

Yeah, but when a gig comes up and you need an adapter in 2 hours and there's a distributor 45 minutes up the road...

By the way, Ted... I must admit that I just stuck the DSLR on aperture priority and banged away, and it was, indeed, a definitive KISS-type liberating experience.

Certainly when we see so many playing digi shooter EOS 20D - Leica R whatever lenses! Why bother with others? Go with someone who we know right off without screwing around. Remember.... KISS! He's an absolute known quantity.

Did I look to see how it fit? Springs etc? Nope it fits perfectly so why bother looking?

Only because some other folks would probably be interested to know.

And so far the adapter has delivered exactly what I expected and wanted...... being able to use my Leica R lenses on a 20D without any dumb ass problems!

Well... when some of the rest of us have dumb ass problems, we often need to look a bit deeper.
