This may be well-known on this forum but I'll pass it on FWIW.
I do a fair amount of shooting with a Leicaflex and a Leicaflex SL and
prefer to use a UV filter to protect the front lens element on my first
generation (one and two cam) Summicrons.
I've found that a 43.5 screw in filter can be used in place of the the
Series VI filter retaining ring on these lenses. The filter threads engage
sufficiently to hold the filter firmly in place. This seems to be specific
to the Leitz Series VI retaining ring threads as the filter doesn't fit
other Series VI filter holders that I've tried.
