[LRflex] Re: Erwin Puts on the DM-R

So much for Irwin being accused of being Leica's poodle.

I'll declare myself right now; I plan on having a DMR in my kit "someday".
I had the money to buy either the Nikon or Canon kit but was put off by all
the bling bling and itsy-bitsy buttons and clickers.

Neither camera felt right in my hands, either. Must be latent Contax/Leica
Tactile Virus or something.

Of course this "aberrant" attitude instantly puts me in a teeny-weeny
minority.

I'm OK with that. I don't do photography for a living (yet) so I have time
and resove to continue learning my R8/9 kit and to become a better
photographer. Maybe I'll sell some work over time and pay for the addtional
tools I buy - a newer Mac and monitor, better workflow software, an even
better printer, etc. I'be had some stuff published but frankly I can't
imagine doing it for profit.

Back On Topic: I salute Irwin for doing the right thing, for creating a
very educational reference piece, for nudging Leica where they need to be
nudged, and for pushing some readers out of Leica into Canon or Nikon where
they may need to be instead. That's really OK.

For now, I'm challenged by my Leica R kit, have a lot to learn. And for now
when I really, really need to take digital pix, I'll use my meager 5.1 mP
Canon G5 which still continues to suprise me when I use it correctly and for
the right reasons.

Irwin's report is not the end of the world. It's just that the world is
changing.

Perhaps the 20-to-30-something year old product mavens at Hermes will drag
Leica screaming and kicking into the correct niche of the digital world, and
we'll see some relevant, not too obsolete product that will not just keep
Solms in business, but force them to grow beyond current, conservative
projections.

Meanwhile, I'm gonns burn a few frames of print flim this weekend with the
R9 and 70-180 (R8 is on it's way to Annandale for DMR compatibililty
upgrade). Spending time with my camera will make me happy for an hour or
so. I won't think very much about sensors for that hour.

Regards, to all,

Bob
