According to Canadian PhotoNews (a trade publication), digital cameras may
be rapidly increasing, but film is holding its own.
A recent survey by Eastman Kodak concludes that:
"while photographers are looking to digital technology to capture at lease
some of their images, a majority - 52%_ continue to shoot only with film."
Kodak further notes that, especially among professionals and serious
amateurs, "film isn't easily replaced... Photographers' commitment to film
remains exceptionally strong, with overall quality as film's greatest
benefit, followed by it's almost universal availability." The key reason
most photographers gave for preferring film was "artistic preference".
At this rate, and with the huge already installed base of film cameras, we
should not fear the demise of film for a long time!
