[LRFlex] Re: Digiweekend/sharpening

Hello Bob,
I'm not one for looking at numbers, I had enough of that at work. I set parameters until they get what I consider to be right to me (not necessarily right for others). For sharpening I seldom use unsharp masking, more likely Focus Magic, the 3 frequency range/3 channel sharpening option in the noise attenuation process Neat Image, or photo-plugin's High Frequency Sharpening. I try to find something in a shot as a reference to show me when the sharpening factor is too much when displayed at "actual pixel" size setting, a window frame, twigs or branches, steam train wheels, signs or whatever. as soon as these start to get bright fringes then it's too much and I take the values down a bit.

Thanks muchly for the kind view of these shots.
You're very welcome

All handheld. The cool thing for me about the available darkness shot of Alex is that his own irises look like they're running at around f 1.0 or so...
Aha! a Noctipus - same with our Somali, Posy

both at 1600 ISO equivalent, the colours may be a little off (she's the colour of a red fox), these were processed on my notebook with a rather dim TFT screen. I just got a Spyder 2 today , so tomorrow I'll be calibrating all the monitors in the Sharp household, can't wait to see the difference.
And a BW shot, "slightly" modified in PS.

All 20D and Leica Summicron R 35/2

So, quickly, what sort of general settings for radius, amount, and threshhold do you find yourself using for your 4000 ppi scans?
I turn it off in the Nikon scan toolbox.

Howzabout for the digisnaps?
Same method, I don't bother with sharpening in the RAW converter in PS.
AlthoughPixmantec Raw Shooter (freeware standalone for RAW rocessing)works pretty well from what I've seen so far I haven't really had time to do any exhaustive testing on it yet.

Hi Bob,
you ARE enjoying yourself with your new toy!!!!
I know exactly what it feels like - and no waiting a week for someone in an anonymous lab to ruin your film. Fun isn't it.

I love the Alex (the elegant), the dandelion and the little bird pictures. Very nice indeed, tripod, monopod or handheld?
cheers
Douglas

Yeah, I know; this stuff really has that go-out-and-shoot-some-pictures-with-the-new-rig kinda look, but what the heck...
The B&W at 1600 is looking awfully good to me, awfully good...
