I'd stick with this workflow until you can get what you want, unless money
is no object! ;-)
The results that you can get from scanned film are better than any
"prosumer" direct digital, and the 6x6 beats even the Canon 1Ds, which is
outrageously expensive.
To satisfy my "itch", I got a Nikon 8700 (a dZLR), and promptly decided
that it is no match for the R5 with any Leica glass. My wife enjoys it for
snapshots, though. Along the same lines, a D70 or Canon Rebel would be a
good choice. Going with a Canon and an adapter for the Leica glass would
be a good option, as it would give you a chance to assess the need for
digital-specific lenses (which made me re-think the prosumer dSLR path and
opt for the dZLR w/digital lens). Something else to consider is that the
small-sensor digitals take away wide angle capabilities when used with a
35 mm lens, so if you're a wide-shooting-kinda-guy, this may become an
issue. So much to consider!
Anyway, a;though I find this site's test methods to be suspect, they do
provide some good comparative specifications for many models.

Good luck!
