[LRFlex] Re: Digi-Modul-R...

The 20D body is already down to below 1500 euros here in Germany, so that's a
saving of 3000 euros just against the DMR. Considering that you have to have,or
buy,an R body to begin with that's another 2750 on top for a new R9. I'm more
than pleased with the performance of the entry level DSLR EOS 300D so I'm
planning to get a 20D too.
R9 2750 Canon 20D 1500
DMR 4500 Adapter 145 R to EOS (Novoflex)
then again there are adapters for just about any lens make you can think of for
the Canon mountfrom around 40 euros (M42) to nearly 200 euros for more obscure
marques, even for some medium format optics. By now I've tried my whole lens
collection on the Canon, from 21 to 600mm, all work perfectly.

I like the fact that the Digi-back is firmware upgradable in the field. With Canon, you have to buy the next generation body. However, if the cost to upgrade the firmware is close to the cost of a new Canon body (as factory upgrades on Kodak's 14n have been) the advantage is negated.

It IS possible to upgrade the EOS firmware by downloading free updates from the Canon site - there is a new software version for the EOS 300 D, 1.1.1, download on to the CF card and install, or do it via USB. I expect further updates will become available when Canon sees fit.

Like I said, I'd love to support Leica on this one... I'd love to be able to say that I have kept the faith. But, the cost structure is not encouraging. :(

Cheers!

Going half way and being able to use Leica glass is good enough for me until I win on the national lottery. cheers Douglas
