Douglas, Fred and Rachel:

I too, have noticed that the digital revolution has not only revitalized the hobby of photography, but it has brought many more women than previously seen, into the fold. About 40% of members in our local photo club are women.

There is another tell-tale sign. Last year, our local WHY, offered a photo course, and it was cancelled because they couldn't get 4 people to sign up! Next week I am teaching this year's course; and they tell me that they have 17 signed up... and 10 of them are women... with, I'm told, not a P&S camera in the lot!

I think that much of the conventional wisdom is that large cameras, such as the R8 are hard for women to hold, with their smaller hands. Yet I know several women who use the R8 or R9 with great expertise. OTOH, my own wife, Rose, uses a Pentax K10d, because she cannot hold my R8 ... not because of size but because of weight. Arthritis will do that to you!

Personally, I like the idea of more women photographers ... and I'm looking forward to next week's course!

wonderful...

entirely agree David...

I did a recent workshop with LeRoy de Jolie...the majority of attendees at the Canyon de Chelly were women, of all ages...the person I bonded to, just loved, was an almost 80 year old French woman who was shooting with leicas....

Cheers!
