Yes, if the converter is designed to work with a wide angle lens, then
it's fine; most aren't though, and my answer was based on the original
question being about the Tamron converters, of which I own two. Indeed,
the Tamron converter won't even fit to the 24 mm Tamron!
Most third party converters aren't very good, so far as I'm aware, and I
can only speak with confidence about the ones that I own. I also have a
two-part TelePlus converter (2x and 3x in one modular unit). Now that
one I do NOT recommend! As a 2x, it costs 2 stops, and about 3.5 stops
as a 3x; the definition isn't bad, but you lose so much sensitivity that
it's hopeless with a long lens. Trying to photograph moving birds in
bright sunshine using 200 ASA film, at about 1/30th and the lens wide
open is a lost cause before you start..... :-( The first obstacle is
trying to focus with a view looking like midnight, even with the bright
viewfinder of my Pentax, and it only goes downhill from there. So -
Tamron plus telephoto - fine! Other third-party converters - caveat emptor.
