I was thinking in terms of the difference more like
two different slide films -- the M8 shot looks more
like Velvia or an older warm Agfachrome or perhaps an
Ektachrome warm version, and the DMR more like a
normal contrast Ektachrome or maybe Provia or Astia.
Actually, the photographer would need to tell us wich
looks more like the scene. Or like a mild warming
filter as Ted suggests.
I can see how the extended red sensitivity could be a
big advantage in B&W -- I would expect a higher
effective sensitivity under tungsten light, and skin
tones should come out lighter in low-light conditions.
Skies might also be slightly darker, like a light
yellow filter was used, and perhaps some haze
penetration since haze is usually from the blue end of
the spectrum. Does anyone know if the blue end of the
spectrum is reduced slightly or is it normal? I doubt
blue sensitivity would be extended.
