Philippe. Perhaps the curve or distance of your rear element is different
than on the Leica lens.
I would think the curve and distance would need to be just right to get the
reflected light to focus enough on the sensor to show up. Does the 80-200
have a fixed rear element, or one that does not move too much when focusing
or zooming?

Aram,
A problem with THIS lens as David has tried other lenses and the bluedot
didn't show up so it can't be this sensor
It is most certainly not the focal length - I own a 70-210 Angénieux and
never noticed it on a Digital camera .
So it still may be this particular lens, because it showed on the DMR AND
on the R30.
Or, more unlikely all 80/200, which Doug doesn't seem to have noticed so
far.
Bien amicalement

Aram, Philippe:
Philippe has a good point. The problem has occurred with this lens, when on
a D20, D30 and R8+DMR.
It most likely affects all 80~200/4 Vario lenses, as it caused by the light
reflected from the sensor's surface (shinier than film) being re-reflected
back to the sensor by the rear element of the lens. This will only happen
when circumstances are just right, and only with lenses with a rear element
of suitable curvature to allow it to happen. Changing lenses, to one which
has a rear element of a different curve will cure the problem.
Cheers!
