[LRflex] Re: Angenieux Fotos - response to Philippe's Thread

Indeed they are, and that's exactly what makes the wines made with them=20
something that I don't particularly savour (savor)
Zinfandel originates from Vintners of German descent in Croatia where it =

was called Zinnfandel.
It first appeared in America sometime in the 1830's, spelled Zinfandal=20
(at the Massachusetts Horticultural Society)
by the 1860s it had found its way to California, where it became a=20
popular vine, and its name changed mysteriously to Zinfandel.

Of course they can be grown anywhere where the climate suits, but on top =

of the inherent flavour of the grape comes the soils they are grown in,=20
the treatment of the vine, the degree of ripening (=D6chsle)
the sugar content ( a function of the climate). I just happen to prefer=20
wines grown on volcanic or igneous soils. The Montepulciano wines with=20
made with Prugnolo Gentile (local version of Sangioveto Grosso, a=20
Chianti region grape) Caniolo Nero and in some wines a touch of aromatic =

Malvasia are the ones for me. Although even the Chianti region is=20
increasingly producing Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes for the mass =

market.
If you ever get the chance, try a Montepulciano Vino Nobile - the=20
Italians say it's a wine for gentlemen - or a Chianti Colli Sensei which =

is from the same provenance and is virtually indistinguishable (and what =

a lovely name for it too). Though the true Montepulciano should never=20
have the "Barrique" taste, Barriques are forbidden there, but not in=20
Chianti. It makes a world of difference

Zum wohl (you don't say Prosit with wine)
