[LRflex] Re: Angenieux 3X70 lens comparison

Bonjour Philippe,
Thanks for the informative lens comparison link. I had also sold off a
(Minolta-made ?) Leica 75-200 mm f/4.5 Vario-Elmar-R because I found
it rather 'soft' for a Leica lens, and later replaced it with the
Angenieux 70-210/4. In my frugal mileage that I have placed on this
lens, I found that the Angenieux zoom lens produces colors that are
very natural with Fuji 200 film, not overly saturated nor too
contrasty....that can occur with say, a Zeiss lens. From the graphs
at the link you sent, it seems to do rather well stopped down to 5.6
and beyond.....which matches my practical experience.

However, I think some intangibles that cannot be adequately documented
in any optical-field performance or MTF-type chart are factors such as
microcontrast, say in transitioning from in-focus to out-of-focus
areas, as well as the all important 'bokeh' factor. These attributes
require more experimentation on my part with this particular Angenieux
zoom - most of my shots have been focussed at a distance and I have
been more than satisfied!

Thanks again for sharing that link - some of the Nikon fixed focus
lenses look pretty good on the graphs! I may have to start playing
with the manual Nikon 105mm 2.5 non-AI lens that I got for cheaps then
AI'ed !
Oooops, sorry this is a Leica thread.....!
