Hi Guys!

I owe you all an apology... Another Heron, posted last night, was the "same old Heron" - originally uploaded March 17th!

Last night, I set up the new web page but inadvertently sent the post, without remembering to first upload the new photo!

The "new heron" is now uploaded and ready for viewing... my humble apologies!

And thank you all, for your comments on the "same old Heron"! :)

The new shot was taken with the 400/f6.8 (no extender) using the shoulder stock, but without monopod nor other steadying device. (I haven't figured out how to attach the monopod to my old-style shoulder stock!)

The shoulder stock does indeed, make it possible to hand hold -rather easily with the 400mm and difficult, but not impossible, with the 2x for 800mm. The biggest problem with the 2x is you need to have a bright day, for f13 wide open precludes its use on most overcast days.

I'm afraid, Ted, that I am using a (gasp!) cable release to fire the R8... haven't got one of the fancy wired releases for the winder yet. Still, it works pretty well!

The winder (Thank you Howard C!) is a god-send with this lens- both for balance and for being able to use the pistol grip. Without it, you need your left hand to focus, your right hand to press the release and your other right hand to wind the film! I dunno about the rest of you, but that leaves me one right hand short!

My hat is off to Doug, who uses the SL (no motor/winder) with this lens and somehow manages to wind the film and not miss any shots!

Comments on the 'new' new Heron appreciated.

Thanks for looking!
