Hi Charlie,I once asked my late fatherwhether he'd like to own one of those planes, to which he replied, "No, because they burned 60 gallons per hour!" Neil
Neil, It's rarely publicised when an edict doesn't work out well. :-)Frank Tallman didn't like Mustangs much as airplanes either. He preferred the Curtiss P-40, because its old fashioned wing section
was better behaved in aerobatics, and the Allison engine ran better at low power, and could be made to burn perhaps 20 GPH without fouling plugs. The Mustang was far and away the better weapon. The Fantasy of Flight museum has a mint P-51C also in Tuskegee red tail paint, that is worth the trip to Florida all by itself, leaving aside all the other aircraft there, including the world's only airworthy Martin B-26. -- Charlie Falke _____ /\ | __/\__/------/__) |(____\/_________/ "One test result is worth | |/ `o one thousand expert opinions" - Wernher Von Braun 0 N4003M "Imagination is more important than knowledge" - Albert Einstein
