[LRFlex] A question of plugs...

All:

When I first received my 400 f6.8 Telyt, it had the first generation pistol
grip/shoulder stock. Come to think of it.... it still does!

For those who don't know the 400 Telyt, it can be seen at:
http://www.wildlightphoto.com/leica/400r68.html. However, this photo shows the
second generation grip, which is nicely contoured, and fitted at the top to
hold a cable or electric release.

The first generation grip is a simple, bent aluminium bar. Not to comfortable
to grip, and not fitted for a cable release.

My first project was to build a custom handle out of hard maple, and drill both
it and the aluminum grip to accept a cable release. It has worked fine with
the R8 (equipped with Winder).

Now, however, I'm using the Canon 20D with the Telyt, and it does not accept a
mechanical release at all! Thus, I've lost more than my fair share of shots
due to camera motion induced by (a) not holding the grip so I could press the
release and (b) pressing down on the shutter release, thus inducing motion - at
800 mm, (Telyt + 2x converter) this makes a serious difference!

Yesterday, I finally found enough of my tools (not so long ago, I moved) to
convert the grip to electric release, using bits from Radio Shack and a Canon
wired-remote release.

Boy! Is it easy to hold the camera steady while shooting compared to the
mechanical cable release!

I'm posting this for two reasons...

[1] to encourage any of you, who may be in a similar position, to convert to
electric release and

[2] to ask if anybody here knows of a low cost source for the plug for the
electric release on the Motor-winder R8? I'd love to convert the R8 to
electric release, too!

Lastly, does anybody here know the pinout for the Winder-R8's plug?

Many thanks.

David.
