Yesterday, I was looking up something in my favourite bird book
(that's a book for bird-brains!) and then spent some time simply
examining the photos.
Most were quite good...though some made me feel that shots of similar
birds in my own collection were superior to those in the book. That
made me feel a bit better! :-)
However, there was one shot, of an immature Northern Goshawk (page
94, RT, Stokes Field Guide to Birds - Western Region) that seemed
head and shoulders above the rest.
The image was aesthetically pleasing and the focus was spot on
(something basic, but which cannot be said of all shots in the
book!). But what got me was the smoothness of the OOF background
(Bokeh?). A quick glance at the photo credits determined it was shot
by one D.R. Herr.
Might that be our own Birdman of Sacramento?
Just curious... great shot, either way!
