Hi all, I believe this is my first post to this list.
I've had a 90mm Summicon-R for a while in perfectly usable condition,
some wear is evident, but it has been and is a fine lens.
I just got a 90mm Elmarit-R, first type, in near mint condition in its
plastic keeper for a very low price. I was interested in two
possibilities- that it might be a sharper or otherwise better or
attractively different lens to the Summicron- sometimes lenses have a
different "look" to the results that makes it worth having more than one
of a particular focal length, and that it might be lighter.Well, it is
only about 50 grams lighter and it is of course the 2nd version of the
Elmarit that gets the high praise for its optics, although Puts does
describe this 1st type as an excellent performer. I will try it out but
would not necessarily expect to immediately notice any subtle
differences in pictures I would take at this time of year in dull, damp
London town. I would be keeping the Summicron for its speed in any case.
I'm really interested in any subjective differences in the results, if
any. Can anyone who has used both suggest whether the Elmarit-R (1st
type) is different enough in any way to make it worth keeping alongside
the Summicron?
Many thanks,
Joe B.
