I haven't looked at the physical structure of a writable DVD but if it is the same a writable CD, then scratching the "top" side will destroy a DVD as easily as a CD. I don't think the technology between the 2 is different enough for me to say one will be more reliable than the other. I treat both as unsuitable for archival storage.
I though it worth knowing about... even if the product is not yet available. 



Interesting yes though it is still a long way from product. :)
