Of course... It's always backwards compatibility only... though the Holo-Disc recorder may also be able to record DVD & Blu-Ray discs, much as existing DVD recorders can also record CDs. 


I am very leery of any claims to archival permanence from a plastic
disk that stores 500GB.
I wonder, too ... but then DVD's have proved a more reliable medium than CD's for archival storage. Time will tell. 

I though it worth knowing about... even if the product is not yet available.
