Every other year the California Hawking Club's annual field meet in
Sacramento, and when the birds aren't flying their field trials they're
accessible for photo ops.

This year the weather was blustery, perfect flying weather for the larger
falcons such as Peregrine, Saker (a eurasion species) and a captive-bred
hybrid gyr/peregrine/prarie falcon owned by a club member.  During the
better wind gusts each of these large falcons would test the wind with their
wings, occasionally rising in the air a foot or so above the perch the bird
is tethered to:
