Tina:
Looks like blown highlights on the candleflames in both cases. With
the M8, it looks like there's blooming to adjacent pixels too.
The 85mm f/1.2 results look much more natural - the entire menorah
looks sharp, and the boy's face is a bit sharper too.
The 75mm f/1.4 looks like it was focused on the boy's hand, with
depth of field extending more beyond it, and less towards you. I'd
say the error with the 75mm was in depth of field.
And the M8 handled overexposed highlights poorly. The only way to be
sure it wasn't just a focus or lens problem is to test a candleflame
you focus on precisely with the 75mm f/1.4 using both the M8, and
film in an M7 or M6 TTL. That's what I'd do.
That would tell you if it's the M8 or the 75mm lens.

People who are interested in the M8:
I'm still doing comparisons. Yesterday photographing a Hanukkah
celebration, I used both the 5D and the M8. The 5D had the 85/1.2
lens, I set it at 800 ISO and used automatic focus. The M8 had the
75/1.4, I set it at 160 ISO and minus 2 exposure and manual
focus. They were both converted in SilkyPix using automatic white
balance and exposure compensation. What is going on with the candle
flames in the Leica photo? Is it just a difference in depth of
field? Did I miss the focus slightly?

I would love to get to the point where I could carry just the M8 but
I'm definitely not there yet!
