Hi Mark,
The way I look at it is that you are a 'professional' bike race photographer and have privileges beyond the average bloke. And you have a lot of experience in supplying race photos for money, therefore, you HAVE to provide what the readers want to see. So experience and access to produce salability are your forte.
Steve made some very eye catching and pleasing photographs that, for the non-race-sale viewer, are pretty darn good. I personally could care less about the bike wheels - I like the series of colorful helmets and grimacing faces, in a nice curve making for a very nice composition (#2).
