Why I like the Noctilux

Leica's 50mm f/1 Noctilux is among the fastest camera lenses on the
planet. This fall, Leica released a new version with aspherical
surfaces, a slightly faster 0.95 aperture, and a $10,000 price tag.
While most of us mere mortals can't pop for a $10K lens, the older f/1
Noctilux is available used for much less. At f/1, this lens has
razor-thin depth of field, reasonable center-zone sharpness and
contrast, and some darkening in corners. All these things make it a very
nice portrait lens - especially on the M8:
