Re: What's in your back yard?

David:
Focusing on fast-moving sparrows and towhees in grass presents challenges - critically-sharp eyes are tough to get with the 20D. The microprisms on the EOS 1D mark II's gridded screen allow me quicker manual focus. Your eyes may be better than mine too...;)

I like your perched white-crowned sparrow. The bird looks a little soft - is the full-res image sharp?

I've been rediscovering my backup 400mm lens, a Leitz f/6.8 Telyt. It's completely retro - the thing has manual focus and a manual diaphragm (gasp!). Try to focus it with Canon's EOS 20D and you'll have a hard time.

G'Mornin' Mark!

Nice shots... I like the your Towhee "in a huff"! ;-)

However, I have no trouble focusing the Telyt with the 20D... though I find I have a hard time holding it steady... the 20D is a little light.
It's much easier with the R8 and motor-winder.

Your white crowned Sparrow is cute, too... but they look better off the ground. http://www3.telus.net/~telyt/wc-sparrow.htm
