Re: Walking the River Barrow - shots up.

Fascinating little travelogue, Alex

Thanks. As I'm sure you realise, it's intended primarily for family and friends rather than as a formal photo-gallery. I have one series from a break at The Burren in Co. Clare left to do - some spectacular scenery up there.

Is the Barrow canalised completely, or does it actually flow ? (which could be a problem at the locks you showed).

Half and half. Bits of it are canalised - in fact there are one or two places where the canal actually bridges other rivers. But a lot of it is genuine free-flowing river.

It certainly is the Emerald Isle this summer. (rumour has it that Ireland is so green because most of the Irish left the country to trample on other people's grass ;-) ).

We're now into our fourth successive day of sunshine, which will certainly make the farmers happier as they've been moaning about the problems of getting the harvest in.

Long may it continue!

Best of light

Alex

Hi folks.

An old Irish lady was once asked what were her two favourite days of the year. She thought about it a bit, and replied, "Christmas Day - and summer".

It's certainly been that sort of summer over here, but that did not deter us from making a trek along the course of the River Barrow, one of Ireland's lesser known gems.
