Thanks Bob!
Actually the secret may lie in the fact that I don't drink coffee at all!
Seriously, I am used to using the 400mm Telyt w/2X on the shoulder stock, and
it works quite well. When stuck without it, I was amazed how easy the
Canon/Telyt/2x combo was to use. The main problem was the tendency to 'drop'
the front of the lens when pressing the shutter release. As a result, many
shots were ruined, compositionally, by the lack of the shoulder stock.
Luckily, amongst the dross were a few decent shots.
I continue to be amazed at the performance of the 20D with Leica glass,
particulary at high ISOs. The combination of the 1.6 multiplier and high ISO's
is a real boon to wildlife photogs using slow lenses.
Thanks for looking! :-)
