Yes, he IS good, David. In addition to his excellent English (which we probably expect from most Brits), his already good German is being refined further there in Hannover. After all, Hannover is to the German language as Oxford is the the English language.

You're spot on about Hannover, Roger. That's where my 'Hochdeutsch' got fluent, and my English more broken.


Not so sure about Oxford. There's something called the 'Oxford drawl', which has characteristics all of its own. Something near the way the Royals speak: 'hice' instead of 'house' The standard over here used to be something called 'BBC English', as practised by BBC announcers. Sadly (or maybe not), the BBC made a policy decision to drop this standard. So we now hear a rich diversity of regional accents from the presenters.
